St Edmundsbury Sailing and Conoeing Association has broadened its horizons thanks to a jetty extension funded by an £8,000 grant from the Asda Foundation.

The enhanced facility benefits all members of the club at Lackford Lakes including WASH Sailability, which serves disabled people.

Debs Steele, association member and sailing instructor, said: “It’s going at right angles to the original jetty so WASH can recover their boats irrespective of wind direction so you’ve got more opportunities for disabled sailing.”

The jetty is good for close quarter manoeuvre practice for sea cadet units and those on training courses. It also prevents damage and increases the life of training boats which used to have to pull up along the shore.
